Plan an Epic Day Hike in Three Easy Steps

I’m so excited you want to get out and hit the trails. But before you head out there are somethings you need to do to help you have a successful hike.

1. Location & Details
– what park are you going to?
– what trail(s) do you want to hike?
– what is the trail profile? (aka: elevation, climbs, path type, etc)
– what animals are local to the area?
– what’s the weather supposed to be like?
– what’s the latest information about the park and trails? (provided by state or national park rangers)

2. Outfit & Supplies
– what are you wearing?
– it is a long sleeve or short sleeve day?
– do you need pants or will shorts work?
– what type of footwear do you need?
– which pack are you going to use?
– what are you carrying in your pack?
– how much food/snacks do you need?
– how much water do you need to carry?
– do you need electrolytes?
– what emergency supplies do you need?
– do you need to carry bear spray?

3. Trail Strong Training Plan
– depending on what type of trail, location of trail, difficulty of trail, and length of trail will allow you to know how much or little training you need before hitting the trail.
– a nice easy trail at your neighborhood park you could go out without any training and have fun.
– but once you are moving to trails at state parks and especially national parks I highly recommend you train for these trails for 4-12 weeks.
– training for the trails will allow you to be stronger and enjoy the trails more.
– be the beast on the trail!

📞 Let me know when you’re ready to start planning your hike, yes even a day hike, and I can help make sure you are 100% ready to attack those trails.
