Having the right gear is important for running but becomes even more important when you move to trail running. The right gear can make all the difference when you are out crushing the miles and wanting to feel fabulous once you are done.
So what are my top three items that I think all trail runners need, no matter the distance.
– Trail Shoes (They really do make the difference on the rooty, rocky, dirt terrain – find what works best for you. I rock Brooks!)
– Hydration (I highly recommend finding a vest that fits great for all the long miles, but find what works best for you maybe it’s a hip belt or handheld. I am team Nathan hydration vest! PS: don’t forget your electrolytes)
– Nutrition (You got to stay fueled. You need to find what works best for your tummy. I am a mix of performance products, like Honey Stingers, and real food)
Then other items that can help depending on your goals…
– gps watch (I love my Garmin but there are a few great brands out there. Find the watch that gives you all the features you want and need)
– body glide (I’m team Squirrel Nuts Butter)
– headwear (cool, protection, sweat buffer – all my fun hats are Sprints)
– socks (keep feet and legs happy – I only rock ProCompression – helps make your outfit)
– sunglasses (seeing is important – I only wear Goodr – no bounce and light weight)
– running poles (love Black Diamond)
– headlamp (love Black Diamond)
– first aid kit (you gonna fall)
Find what works best for you! That’s what most important. Just because I love it doesn’t mean it will work for you.
PS: I am not sponsored by any of these brands. They are just brands I love and think are a good place to start!
