Why is hindsight always 20/20. Why do we have to learn the hard way. Why doesn’t anyone tell us these things. Ok they probably do and we just don’t listen as we think they don’t apply to us. Well listen up! They do. They apply to ALL OF US.
EASY!
Slow down. Most of your miles, at least 80%, should be easy. Meaning you could sign the song your listening to or carry on a full conversation.
Hydration
Can you run without water, yes. Should you, never. Not even the small mile runs. Always keep water on your person. Oh don’t forget your electrolytes. They are the magic that keep you going.
Fuel
Can you run longer distance without fuel, yes. Should you, absolutely not. You need to replace those calories you are burning to keep your body functioning properly. Whole foods, chews, gels, something y’all.
Body Glide
Chafing will happen. But you can protect your hot spots by putting on body glide before your runs to save your skin. You’ll thank me in the shower.
Walking
Guess what you can walk when you are on your run and still be a runner. Crazy right. But it’s true. Use it when you need it and embrace the progress.
Rest
Your body needs time to rest and recover from the miles you do. Give your body the rest it needs. Can you run 7-days a week, yes. Should you, probably not.
It’s a Journey
There is no end distinction in running. That might sound crazy as you are going out for a certain distance or time. But you are always learning and growing. Embrace the process.
BONUS: Strength Training
I knew this one but many skip strength training saying it is not needed. Lies I am in the camp it is and will help you not only in running but everyday life.
