Cold Weather Running Tips…Darn You Winter

Well, the arctic air is officially upon us. So how can you stay toasty when the weather outside is frightful and the fire is so delightful. But since there’s no place to go let’s go run, let’s go run, let’s go run!

LAYERS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND
Layers keep your body temperature regulated. Depending on the weather this could mean base layer, short sleeve, long sleeve, vest, jacket, running sleeves, etc. Find what works best for you in different temperatures and weather conditions. I always say better to have and not need then need and not have.

TUCK IN YOUR BOTTOM LAYER
The key is to keep your body warmth in. Do this by tucking in your bottom layer top into your bottoms. This will stop drafts from sneaking in and help keep your core warm.

WOOL SOCKS
Wool socks help keep your toes warm and wick away moisture that can cause trouble when on a run. I recommend knee highs on the super cold days to keep your legs warm too. But you could wear a low-cut pair of wool socks over your regular socks for extra warmth and absorption.

COVER YOUR HEAD AND YOUR EARS
Heat escapes from your head. You want to keep that heat in. Depending on the weather that could be a regular running hat to a true cold weather stocking cap. Also don’t forget to cover your ears. By wearing a headband you’ll add additional warmth to your noggin.

KEEP THEM FINGERS WARM
Cold fingers might be the worst thing that you can easily notice while running. Invest in multiple types of gloves depending on the weather. Also, you can use hand warmers to help keep your fingers warm until your body heats up from the run.

Remember your body will warm up as you run. So, you don’t want to be toasty before you start running. You want to have a slight chill. This is how you will know you have the right amount of layers on and won’t overheat during your run.

Drop a ⛄️ if you’ll be out running.
