Let’s be honest I don’t strength train to look pretty. I strength train so I can fight bears in the forest. Seems logical enough right? I mean I will be hiking in bear county so I better be ready.
But all jokes aside. You need to figure out your why and this isn’t just limited to physical endeavors like strength training, running, hiking, etc. But that is where we will focus for this post.
When you have a strong why it will help you stay course and do what needs to be done even when you don’t want too.
Your why is NOT your goal or your outcome but IS about the passion and purpose.
So to create a solid why you need to look at your values and ask yourself these three questions as it pertains to your journey.
– what motivates or inspires you?
– what sources do you draw strength from?
– what gives you purpose?
I love this quote from Mental Training for Ultrarunning: “When you wholeheartedly believe in what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, your wellspring of determination becomes even deeper and more abundant.”
Once you have locked in your why that is fulfilling, sustainable and empowering then it’s time to make it real and share it. Treat your why like a mission statement for the journey ahead. Then share it with your tribe, the ones that will love and support you on your journey.
Finally keep revisiting your why. Make sure your actions and behaviors a line with what you have stated. If they don’t it’s time to take a deep look at what changes you need to make. Remember should be fluid but the most important part is you keep showing up day after day.
I’d love to hear your WHY if you want me to be one of your tribe members.
