When you are ready to head out to the trail are you educated with “the rules of the trail?” Knowing and understanding these will make your time on the trail better and allows you to be a good steward of the trail.
Etiquette 101
Know your right of way
– downhill yields to uphill
– bikes yield to hikers / walkers / runners
– everyone yields to horses and stock
Make yourself known
– say ‘hello’
– give a head nod
Be mindful of trail conditions
– don’t use if too wet and muddy
Stay on the trail
– don’t go off the trail; it hurts the ecosystem
Do not disturb wildlife
– keep you distance
– do not feed them
– remember we are in their home
Take time to listen
– respect nature and others by keeping noise to a minimum
Be aware of your surroundings
– watch for predators (wildlife and human)
Don’t be a litter bug
– pack it in and pack it out
Leave what you find
– only souvenirs should be pictures and memories
Fido has the same rules
– keep on leash
– keep under control
– pick up the poo
Trail etiquette is everyone’s responsibility.
Remember to respect each other on the trials.
