Y’all 2022 was a year of change for me.
I completed my first road marathon in December and went into a funk. I was proud of my training and completing 26.2 miles but I didn’t end with the time I had hoped for and that really pissed me off.
I had a hard time wanting to get back out running and didn’t find the joy I once had for it during all of 2021. Shit I ran over a thousand miles in 2021 y’all!
Then I decided to sign up for a trail race to change things up. I figured I love hiking and being out in nature so maybe trail running could be a good fit. Combine the passion I once had of running with my love for the great outdoors.
Well y’all it was a match made in heaven. I loved it so much and I found that joy and peace is been missing.
So I decided to join the SARR Off Road Running team for fall training and signed up to run the 25k distance. I figured ease into trails as it is way different from road and it wouldn’t be as pressure filled as this was all about having fun and finding joy.
I was head over heels with the trails, the vibe, the camaraderie, the people, the fun, the everything. I found my new home and I found my tribe.
We cared about enjoying the run and getting the miles done. We didn’t care about the pace and the time it took. We embraced power hiking on inclines and unstable surfaces. We didn’t ask why are you not running. We supported each other and push each other. We built a bond on and off the trail.
So I’m a TRAIL RUNNER now. This is who I am. I will be spending most of my time racing on trails only and plan to do all my long runs there too. It touch pavement if it a race of a good cause, a fun time with my tribe, or it’s at a National Park. But my focus is trails.
I’m fully converting to the dark side. 🖤
