Water Is Essential on the Trail

Every time you hit the trail, no matter how short or long your hike/run, you NEED to have water with you. It is as essential as your shoes to protect your feet or applying anti chafing salves to protect your skin.

How Much Do You Need To Drink?

Well, I hate to say it but, it depends. It will changed based on following factors:
– activity type
– intensity level
– duration
– weather
– temperature
– elevation
– age
– sweat rate
– body type

But a good starting point is to drink 16oz for each hour you are active in moderate temperate. If you are in heat or doing a strenuous activity then 32oz or more per hour would be warranted.

Hydration Tips:
– Pre-hydrate for long trails.
– Drink often rather than chugging.
– Don’t force water.
– Add electrolytes, don’t just drink plain water.
– Don’t forget to drink in cold weather.
– Drink more when in altitude.
– Plan your route; do you need to carry all your water upfront or are there places you can refill.
– Wear sun protection.
– Don’t forget snacks.
– Set a timer if you think you won’t remember to sip on your water.
– Rehydrate once you are done on the trail.

Please don’t be one of the many people that everyday goes on a hike with little to NO water. You will regret it. You will need water. Don’t become a statistic that needs to be rescued from a trail due to lack of planning and common sense.

So grab that water bottle, hydration belt, and/or hydration vest and hit the trails. Oh and don’t forget to sip on that water.

🥾 See you on the trails!
