Keep Wildlife Wild Y’all!

Even thought these wild animals are cute and you just want to show them love make sure to do it the right way. Which means don’t put them in your truck…

Don’t approach wild animals.
This means all size including the little guys. Enjoy them from a safe distance. This helps make sure they don’t get too friendly with humans and become dependent on us. Give them space and show them respect. We are in their home…don’t ever forget that!

Keep a long distance relationship:
50 feet (small animals) squirrel, chipmunk, birds, snakes, reptiles, varmints
75 feet: (medium animals) deer, antelope, sheep, coyote, fox, poisonous snakes
120 feet: (large animals and predators) bear, bison, elk, moose, mountain lion, bobcat, wolf, alligator, hog

Don’t feed wild animals.
You think it’s cute they take food from you but you are then making them dependent on humans. Plus you are ruining their diet. Yes, they have diets to follow as well to stay healthy. Plus they could bite you and you don’t know where he’s been. This also includes making sure you are keeping your campsite tighty so you don’t get a visit from a predator, like a bear or mountain lion.

Wild animals are not your pet!
I know they all are majestic. Wouldn’t it be nice to just take them home. Even the ones with the murder paws. But they are wild. They belong in nature living their best life. So never keep any wild animal as a pet. If you come across an injured animal call your local Game Warden or Park Ranger, if on State/National Park land. Get them the help them need from professionals.

Give thanks for their presence.
Now that you’re at a safe distance, you aren’t feeding them and you won’t be taking them home. Enjoy the view and bask in their glory. Snap a few photos…yes they might just be a little spot in your photo. But you’ll have an amazing memory and a story to tell.

We will talk more about animal safety in the future but for now start with the above rules.
